A CNA or Certified Nurses or Nursing Assistant requires some training before they can apply for jobs in this field. The training is quick and easy and can be completed multiple ways. Know which way best fits you, your lifestyle, budget, family, and personality is important. It can be difficult to decide which program would work best for you. Here is an easy guide to help you narrow down your search for the program that will fit you and your needs.

The first thing you want to do is look at the available types of programs and make sure they are available in the area you want to train at. The training will consist of 91 hours of nursing assistant training and then 16 hours of working in a clinical environment. After the clinical training the CNA will be certified. Testing is required to be completed and passed before the CNA will be certified. The requirements for the individual program you decide on will be spelled out for you in your course curriculum and by instructors. The clinical environment will train the potential CNA in a hands on manner. Knowing this you can see that since the training is a short one you will need to pick one close to you.

There are several ways a CNA can go about getting trained and certified. One of the ways in which many CNA have chosen in through a vocational school or community college in your area. Many find this way the easier route for many reasons. One reason is because a classroom provides a better learning experience for those who need a motivation to do their work. Also many potential CNA’s prefer learning from a teacher/Nurse from whom they can ask questions and get first hand knowledge from. Many people are motivated to learn through social interaction better than through non social means. Also this type of learning environment provides feedback which excites many CNA’s and provides them with the support and push to finish what they start. It also can make the CNA student aware of potential downfalls to the job to be aware of.

If a classroom setting does not seem right for you there are online CNA courses that may be a better fit. This can be easier for those who wish to get their CNA training while working another job. Or there are many who do not have a job but may stay home with children during the day or take care of an elderly family member. The online certification programs will work perfectly for someone who wishes to become a CNA but also needs to not step out of their world in order to gain the certification. The classes can be completed in your own time frame and worked around your schedule. All with the same end, becoming a CNA! However many find this way of gaining CNA certification difficult. Online courses are better for someone who is self motivated and does not need the social aspect in order to learn and complete something. There is still one more way to get certified to become a CNA.

Some places offer free certification or on the job training. Many of these places are hospitals and local job training groups. Be advised that you need to be careful with these ‘free’ offers. Many are just not real. However if it is offered through a credible organization or hospital in your area than you can be sure it is truly free. You must apply for these training opportunities. Also there is sometimes a waiting list. To begin the search just give your local hospital a call and find out if they have one of these programs or if they know of one in the area. This is the right way to go for many future CNA’s simply because the cost is perfect and the training is more hands on than most programs. However it can sometimes be confined to keeping a job somewhere you might not want to so make sure you know what the requirements are for these before you sign up.

Like anything, the key to finding the right program that fits your needs is to research. Becoming a Certified Nurses Assistant can be full of hurdles and challenges but is so rewarding in the end. Researching the pros and cons of each CNA certification program is a start. Then looking at cost and budgeting will help narrow the search down even more. Then deciding which type of program fits your personality and lifestyle. Lastly looking at comments other students have made about the program or talking to CNA’s who have completed their training and finding out from them how they liked their program. All these steps will help you become CNA certified in the richest most rewarding environment tailored to how you learn best. Happy Hunting!
