Starting in February of 2012, ACTS is partnering with Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) to provide free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training classes to 10 motivated low-income PWC residents.
The need for CNAs, particularly at nursing homes is on the rise due to high turnover rates and the retirement of baby boomers. Over the next 7 years, the Virginia Employment Commission projects that "health care support" occupations in Prince William County will grow faster than any other occupational cluster. CNA jobs are entry level, starting at an average of $12, and provide a stepping stone for further opportunities in the medical field.
All course fees, books, and materials will be free of charge. Students will be responsible for arranging their own daycare and transportation to and from the site.
Class will meet every Friday and Saturday from February 10 to April 14th.
The schedule will be:
Fridays 6:00pm - 10:30pm
Saturdays 8:30 AM -- 5:30 pm
Course will be 130 hours of intensive training, and will cover all basic CNA skills.
